Tips for a great minute

Use the three words

Try to use all three helper words or expressions in your answer. Tap each one when you use it, and try to get all three.

Follow a simple plan

Give your answer, then a reason, then an example from your life. Finish with how you feel about it now.

Stuck? Use a repair phrase

Keep going with “Let me think…”, “What I mean is…” or “Let me put that a different way.” Silence is the only thing to avoid.

Record yourself

Record your minute on your phone and listen back. You will hear your progress from week to week.

Do it twice

Talk about the same topic again. The second minute is always smoother, with fewer pauses and better words.

Play with a partner

Take turns. When your partner finishes, ask one follow-up question. You can also share a recording in the community.
